Visited Goldbug on 8/12/06.  Quite a few people parked at the trailhead.  The compost toilet partway up is still functioning, so I was really saddened to see spots all the way up the trail where people had obviously pooped and left behind a pile of TP.  Trail was in good condition, and the weather and water tempuratures were optimal!  Goldbug offers great soaking even when there are quite a few people because of its many pools.  Trash around the pools was low, but on the trail was pretty high.  Maybe a sign at the trailhead telling people about the toilet would cut down on people going to the bathroom wherever the urge hits them.
Safety Note (this should be considered when one visits any spring alone):  There was a creepy guy at the spring hiding behind rocks and taking photos of the female visitors.  Though I almost always meet great people at springs, there is the possibility of running into questionable characters as well.  It is good to always be alert and bring a friend if possible.

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if Goldbug accessible during the winter?  Heading up there this week and thought I would check it out.

It sure is, bring a hiking staff or trekking pole as well as good boots and you should be good. Try to catch sunrise or sunset, the views from the pools are insane.

Visited Goldbug on 1/19/07.  All descriptions of the hike in that I had read were accurate.  The trail was pretty icey and I was VERY glad I had brought my hiking staff with the nice carbide tip.  Someone before me had left tracks from those traction things you can wear over your shoes, kind of like tire chains for your feet.  They would have been really nice!  It wasn't too bad going in because it was early enough in the morning.  But by the time I left at about 12:30 or so the sun was up and had made the ice very slick.

The hike was absolutely beautiful and the day was nice and clear.  The soak was wonderful and I had the place all to my self.  Although from the looks of the trail it is well used during the winter months.  (snow packed to ice).

The area was pretty clean, I did haul out a Franzia box and some other small pieces of trash.

Awesome, thanks for the update. Having Goldbug to yourself must have been incredible. Thanks for picking up trash too, that is so cool.

Bravo, twinfly! That last incline must have been a killer on ice.

hey, does anyone know about how long it takes to get to these springs? and what's the ratio of clothed to un-clothed bathers? I know it's clothing optional, but don't really know what the norm is...
