Anyone know if Rocky Canyon is still available for soaking? I am trying to find a hot spring off Highway 84 to soak in and tent camp close by. We are driving through from Colorado into Oregon. Rocky Canyon looks perfect but I saw some chitchat about it being closed down. If it is no longer available any other suggestions would be so appreciated.

There is a series of books by Evie Litton that are excellent and there are several volumes that different kinds of springs and various areas of the country. His Hiking Hot Springs of the Pacific Northwest (2004) is the best one I have come across and contains very good directions to virtually every spring worth visiting. Jayson Loam's Hot Springs and Hot Pools of the Pacific Northwest is another good resource that includes resorts that feature hot tubs or pools.

ENJOY!!!

Evie Litton is actually quite an amazing woman. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a spring early one morning and felt like a flushing fan when i recognized her and told her what an honor it was to meet her. she's like a rock star of the hot springing community. on that note, her guides are very good but make sure to get the most current edition- as you know, springs change over time and the updates can sometimes prove vital information.

Any current recommendations for Featherville area springs?

This year, our "Soak Safari" will take in the South side Jemez Mtns and the Popular Hot Springs over there:

Jemez Springs, McCauley HS; San Antonio HS; Spence HS

Gotta wait for the snow to melt, a couple require kind of a back-country hike!

Wanna join?   Dan

Hey there, new to the area and looking for some more primitive springs.  My wife and I are not really into the more commercial springs with concrete pools and tons of people.  If you know of any secret springs that a couple of nature freaks can soak in please let us know.  We can keep a secret if you dont want a bunch of people to know where they are.  Thanks!

I think you will find that a lot of soakers will sometimes hesitate to just blurt out exact directions to their favorite springs - so as to keep traffic to a minimum. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, and I don't necessarily agree, but I can see their point due to the recent "social problems" not to mention garbage issues. My advice is to invest in a good hot springs guide as they are well worth the minimal expense.

This be a little late, but better late than never, yes? Are thee seeking private or public hot springs. There are a few public springs in the area but not really that close (10-25 miles) to McCall. However, there are 3 excellent privately owned springs in the area: Burgdorf (30 miles), Gold Fork (15 miles), and Zims (20 miles). ENJOY!!!

Hello folks, I have GREAT news for the NEW Year! Today (1-1-2010) I was able to contact a person who is working for the new owner of Red River Hot Springs near Elk City, Idaho - and the news I was able to glean from was GOOD news indeed! It seems that a Mr. Bob Blake from Lewiston has purchased the facilities, and he (and/or his employee) is in the process of remodeling the lodge. He/they plan to re-OPEN the resort in the Spring or early Summer of 2010! That's all I have for now, but I think I speak for many a soaker when I say... Yessssss!!!
